It’s not that complicated! – K.I.S.S. Training for Real Results

Keep it simple stupid!  You’ve heard that saying a million times before, right?

Well, your training is no different.  I’m here to tell you it’s really not that complicated.

Every time you turn around there is a new ebook, manual, fitness dvd, training system, etc,. etc, etc.  Hell, any time I want to find out the latest fitness fad all I have to do is click the little blue button on my DirecTv remote and voila, there are nearly two dozen infomercial channels!

4 minutes a day using only a screw driver and this pulley and you too can have abs of steel.  Insanity, kettleworx, P140X, they are everywhere.  You get my drift.  The fitness world has become so inundated with junk, it’s hard to see the forest for the trees!

I had a new client come the other day.  He wanted to get stronger and gain some weight.  He told me he had been training pretty hard for a while but just wasn’t getting the results he wanted.  He handed me his workout logs from his local country club gym and I was shocked!  He said he had been working with a trainer, if that’s what he called himself.

This man’s sheets were filled with cable this and ball that.  I told him to promptly throw those things away because they weren’t going to help!  I told him it wasn’t this complicated.  What do you mean, he says?  Well for the sake of time, here’s the short answer.  This is all you need to do to get real results!  Here is what I told him:

Squat

Deadlift

Pushups

Pullups

Pressing

Heavy Rowing

Climb Rope

Dips

Sprint

Jump

Take this list and it’s variations and get to work.  It’s all you really need.  These are the nuts and bolts to any successful training program.  No fancy equipment, no craziness, no insanity, just good ol’ fashion blood, sweat, and tears!

Master these movements and your results will sky rocket!

Things that are Awesome and Priceless

No training video or training talk today. Below is just a quick list of things I put together to give my readers a little more insight into me!  Enjoy these things that are awesome and priceless!

Poker night with your boys in the basement while your wife sits upstairs putting up with all of the shenanigans is AWESOME!

Getting stronger while staying lean and mean and doing it the smart way is PRICELESS!

Golf with your old man on a hot summer afternoon is AWESOME!

Date night with your wife is PRICELESS!

Having a supportive group of coaches and colleagues you can rely on for straight up adivce and constructive criticism is PRICELESS!

Being in the woods on a crisp December morning waiting for that trophy buck is AWESOME!

Conditioning work with sledgehammers, kettlebells, thick rope and bodyweight is AWESOME!

Tailgating with friends and family enjoying good food and good bourbon in Charlottesville on a nice fall Saturday even though the team sucks is PRICELESS!

Attention Parents! Why you NEED an EXPERT

First, let me say there are some really great high school strength coaches across the country.  I know some of them personally and know for a fact they would never allow these shenanigans to occur on their watch.

Unfortunately, this is an all too common scene is high school weight rooms across America.  There are so many things wrong with this video there are too many to list and get into!

Where is the coach?  Where is the supervision?  Who taught these “athletes” how to train?

Well, the “coach” is probably doing something else instead of making sure these kids don’t break their necks and backs.  Clearly, these “athletes” haven’t received one ounce of quality instruction.  This is what happens when you dismiss quality strength coaches and their training facilities as “too expensive” because your athletes get to lift weights at school for FREE.  Do you really want your athlete to be the best?  Do you want them to get stronger, faster, and more explosive?  Do you want your athlete to be injured or become indestructible and injury free?

Please take that into consideration when opting for the high school weight room training.  You know what they say.  You get what you pay for.

Jump start your metabolism with REAL WORLD conditioning

I bet Conan didn't run on the treadmill or eat a bunch of crap!

How do I get rid of this?

How do I burn off these?

If I do this for 90 minutes a day, 7 days per week will I be ripped?

Do those fat burning pills really work?

I get asked these questions all the time from friends, family, and clients.  Believe it or not I know when these questions are coming.  I think I’m psychic!  It usually begins with “…hey Jamie, let me ask you a question.”  Undoubtedly what comes next is one of the questions above or a myriad of other questions pertaining to burning fat or “getting ripped.”

They usually don’t like the answer I give them.  “That sounds hard.”  “I can’t do that.”  “I just love ____ too much.”

Well, you know what I say to that?  Man up!  If it’s REALLY important to you, you’ll find away.

Stop eating crap.  Quit stuffing your face with grains and other empty foods that give you nothing nutritionally.  Focus on eating lean meats, fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds.  Seems pretty simple right?  I think so too.

Stop doing cardio and start doing conditioning.  Quit pedaling that bike to nowhere.  Try a little of this at the end of your workout.  I promise, together with sound nutrition and lifting heavy,  a few hard conditioning sessions a week will jump start your metabolism and help you burn more fat.

The Evolution of My Garage Gym

I have something I’d like to share with you today.  It’s the evolution of Real World Strength and Conditioning.  About two years ago I realized I wasn’t happy in my current job.  Not many people understood my training or what I really wanted to do. I soon realized I needed my own space.  I needed a place to train how I wanted to train to get the results my athletes and clients desired.

It’s been a tough road so far.  Owning your own business isn’t all sunshine and rainbows like some make it out to be.  However, I’m moving forward and taking leaps.  I will make this the best place to train in Richmond, Virginia!

Here’s a quick video tour of the gym from infancy to its present form.  It’s a constant work in progress but I am happy with how it’s evolving.  I’m honored that you guys take the time out of your busy day to read my stuff.
